Worst of Houston Craigslist Pets;
We’ve all seen some pretty ridiculous Craigslist posts from people looking to offload all sorts of things, but sometimes we see those same sellers try to pawn an animal off on a good home. Worst Houston Pets #1 – Adorable White Persian Kitten with Blue Eyes Looking for Good Home. If you saw that ad online or in person, your first thought would probably be that kitten is adorable! which may have even led you to call about it immediately before stopping to think how difficult white Persian cats can be to care for.
Best Of – Fluffy, Fuzzy, Friendly;
These are animals who love attention, are nice to be around and make you feel good. No complaints here! However, do a little digging into their background with your vet just to make sure they’re as healthy as they appear in their photo. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Animals that may not be as friendly or clean as advertised. Or maybe it’s just a bad picture (or too many pictures) that makes them look scary or stinky. Best Of – Bizarre But True Pet Ads;
As you browse your way through free classifieds, you’ll find that most of them are pretty mundane. In fact, a lot are so boring that they could put you to sleep. However, every once in a while there is an ad that is as wild as it is unbelievable. Below we take a look at three of our favorite weird but true Craigslist pet ads! (Listed from top left)
Worst Of – Disappearing Pets (and owners?)
Pet flippers are exactly what they sound like. Rather than take good care of their animal, they sell it on Craigslist, then move on to another one. In many cases, their ad is actually written by someone else. Be wary of people who post an ad for a lost dog or cat because they’ll be coming by your house to get pictures to put online. The same goes for owners who tell you they can’t stop thinking about their lost dog or cat – that’s too much emotion over a piece of property. Finally, some people act as if pets aren’t living things (see above). If you want an animal but can’t afford or don’t have time for them, don’t get one!
Worst Of – Owners That Just Aren’t Listening To Their Pets;
As a professional who works in human health care, I have learned that listening to our bodies is paramount for good health. It stands to reason then, that our pets will also let us know when they are experiencing discomfort or illness. If your dog’s ears seem unusually flappy, there may be a problem! In any case, it is important to understand what your furry friends are trying to tell you; so if you notice anything unusual please contact your vet as soon as possible. If you’re interested in adopting a new furry friend, check out these cute Houston-area puppies! Just make sure you read all of their ad before meeting them…you wouldn’t want to get stuck with a litter of raccoons by accident.
What is going on here? Is anyone actually reading these posts? Are we being funny enough? Does my content matter? Will people come back again tomorrow and read my next post?! The questions just kept coming at me, like the dreaded four horsemen galloping toward me from my rearview mirror.
Houston Craigslist’s pets section is a place where anybody can advertise an animal in need, whether that animal has a home or not. There are a lot of very good people out there who take on caring for animals whose owners passed away or found themselves in dire financial straits. That being said, there are also a lot of scammers, liars, and truly awful people ready to take advantage of people looking to find pets. If you want to adopt or buy an animal via Craigslist (or any other means), make sure you are doing so from reputable sources. Protect yourself as much as possible before handing over money or bringing your new companion home.
