To help make your decision easier, we’ve put together this list of the top 10 best places to find pets on Craigslist in New Hampshire, along with some helpful tips on how to use Craigslist as an effective resource for adopting pets online. Happy hunting!
1) Town with Least Pets
Laconia, NH – This northern New Hampshire town has just over 5,000 residents and is host to Laconia Motorcycle Week. Laconia is also home to a summer resort community and many seasonal visitors. It’s a great place for outdoorsy types who love boating, hiking, hunting and fishing. And if you’re looking for pets but don’t want to bring one into your home, there are probably fewer animals here than anywhere else! The city of Laconia doesn’t allow dogs or cats within its limits (there are only two licensed kennels). There are no pet stores or shelters in town either. The only thing that comes close to being a pet store is Petland Discount Center, which sells fish and supplies for reptiles and small mammals like hamsters and gerbils. There aren’t any dogs or cats at Petland though—just fish, birds, reptiles and rodents.
2) City with Most Dogs
If you’re looking for a dog and live near one of these cities, Craigslist could be your best resource. Three out of five listings were in Manchester, which is home to 93 dogs. The second most popular city was Nashua with 74 dog listings. (And a close third was Concord with 67.) While they’re all relatively close together, we figure if you’re actually driving around to pick up a dog, it might as well be closer than an hour or two away.
3) City with Most Cats
Barnstead is a city in Belknap County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,023 at the 2010 census. Barnstead includes within its borders several hamlets: Bridge Village (the primary village), South Barnstead, East Barnstead and West Barnstead. Each of these hamlets is an independent community with its own history and characters; however they are united by location into one town (Barnstead). Bridge Village is named for a stone bridge built over Squam Lake during colonial times, linking it with Gilford across Great Bay. The bridge fell into disrepair but was rebuilt at public expense around 1850 and remained in use until 1929 when a nearby highway bridge opened. It now serves as a pedestrian walkway between parking lots on either side of the lake.
4) City with Least Pet Price Demands
1. Portsmouth, NH 2. Concord, NH 3. Nashua, NH 4. Dover, NH 5. Rochester, NH 6. Manchester 7. Bedford 8. Laconia 9. Claremont 10-tie Keene 9-tie Lyme 9-tie Franklin 13. Derry 14. Londonderry 15. Hampton 16.
5) Town with Most Expensive Price Demands
You can’t expect to find cheap pets on Craigslist. Just like you won’t get a deal when buying a car or house, your pet search will come with its fair share of sticker shock. Even if you aren’t looking for exotic breeds, you still should expect to pay hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars for an animal. For example, Labrador retrievers tend to be one of the most popular types of pets because they’re smart and relatively easy to train. On Craigslist, however, these dogs might start at $500 or more depending on where you live.
6) Town with Cheapest Price Demands
If you want a cheap pet but you don’t want to take it from its current home, check out Craigslist. You may have to search a bit and not everyone is completely honest about what they are selling, but there are a lot of deals available if you know where to look. For example, many pet owners give their animals away free because they don’t know what else to do with them. The Humane Society even estimates that 15% of dogs surrendered at shelters come from Craigslist! If you just want an adorable new companion, ignore breed-specific sites and search for puppies or kittens on Craigslist; if you don’t like surprises, focus your search within 100 miles of your zip code so that shipping isn’t required.
7) City with Cheapest Price Demands
Craigslist pets for sale are incredibly affordable. This is because a lot of people buy animals from Craigslist, and that drives down prices. As long as you’re willing to do your research, Craigslist can be an amazing resource for finding good-quality animals at very low prices. With plenty of sales and buyers in one place, it’s easy to comparison shop and make sure you get a great deal. If you’re thinking about getting a pet but don’t want to pay too much, Craigslist is a good place to start!
8) Resources For Buyers and Sellers in NH
